Curriculum Specials

Curriculum Specials are designed to serve the whole child and integrate learning beyond the classroom. They enable skill development in the fine arts, foreign language, and physical education.

Music

Students in grades K-8 attend music class one day per week for 45-60 minutes. Music curriculum focuses on the concepts of creating, responding, and reading music with age appropriate specific goals (pitch, rhythm, etc.). Students create both vocal and instrumental music as well as explore music theory and history. There are usually 2 performances each year: Grandparents Day in the Fall and the Fine Arts Fair in the Spring.

Physical Education

Each week, students in grades K–8 take part in outdoor PE classes that encourage active play, skill development, and teamwork. The program builds physical fitness through structured movement, games, and sports-related activities, while also helping students grow in confidence, coordination, and respect for others.

Spanish

Students in preschool through 8th grade attend Spanish class 2-3 times per week. For the younger children (Preprimary and Lower Elementary) the Spanish curriculum focuses on vocabulary and common expressions and phrases and is presented in a more immersion-style experience. The children learn songs, play games, and enjoy a diverse repertoire of activities in each lesson.

Beginning in grade 4 and extending to 8th grade, the curriculum is more formal. It reinforces vocabulary and expressions while introducing grammar, speaking and translation.

Art

Students in grades 1-8 attend art class one day per week for 45-60 minutes. Art curriculum focuses on a variety of art techniques such as: drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, and printing. It also strives to coordinate with the classroom curriculum to introduce art history, expression, and cultural influences. A sample of student art work is displayed each year at the Fine Arts Fair in the Spring.
