“Our daughters have thrived at GSCM thanks to the incredible individual attention they receive from their teachers and school leadership, who take the time to truly know each child’s unique learning style and needs. The rich, faith-centered Montessori environment has allowed our girls to explore their curiosity while developing academic confidence and strong moral foundations. We couldn’t be more grateful for the personalized support and nurturing community that have helped our daughters grow into confident, compassionate learners.”-Denise, Parent at GSCM
Welcome to preprimary!
Our Preprimary Environment, rooted in Maria Montessori’s principles and enriched with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, invites each child into a peaceful, prepared classroom that nurtures their spiritual and developmental journey. GSCM has three preprimary classrooms, 24 students per class, and a lead teacher and aide in addition to our specials and student support teams.
Montessori Core Areas
Sensorial
Materials engage the five senses—sound, color, texture, shape, size—helping children classify and understand the world. These concrete experiences lay foundations for math and language.
Language & Reading Readiness
Through sandpaper letters, tracing, movable alphabet, and storytelling, children begin writing before reading. Rich vocabulary and one-on-one guidance prepare them gently for literacy and expression.
Mathematics
Children explore numbers, one-to-one correspondence, place value, and operations using hands-on materials. Concrete sequencing and patterns lead to abstract understanding over time.
Cultural Studies (Science, Geography, Art & Music)
Through nature observation, maps, music, and art, children learn about God’s creation and diverse cultures, fostering wonder, empathy, and global connection. Science activities include gardening, observing plants and animals, and using nomenclature cards.
Community, Movement & Nature
Practical Life & Grace & Courtesy
Children care for themselves and others—watering plants, preparing snacks, polishing tables—building coordination, dignity, concentration, and order as an expression of service and respect
Mixed‑Age Community
Children from different ages learn together, teaching and learning from each other. This fosters leadership, kindness, and community spirit.
Outdoor Land‑Based Learning
Garden beds, animals, and nature classrooms allow children to care for creation, learn seasonality, and practice stewardship through tending plants and observing the world outdoors.
